WHAT TO DO WITH PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE STRONG BELIEF SYSTEMS
We all have different belief systems – this might be beliefs or ideas about religion, about condom use or about politics. As Khuluma mentors, one of your jobs is to balance different belief systems and not allow one person or point of view to dominate.

One topic which could cause problems is religion. Whilst religion is important to many people across South Africa and could be very important in your life too, it should not form part of the support that your participants receive. Try not to send SMSs about religion or those that make reference to religion or prayer so that other people do not do the same.

Sending SMSs that are seen to support one particular belief system can threaten the dynamic of the group and may isolate some people who have different beliefs from others.  Khuluma support groups are inclusive of everyone, regardless of their beliefs and background and no one perspective should be able to dominate.
